Battery Charging

Am the proud owner of my fifth beemer, a 2008 K1200 GT, bought it as superceded model. I have a trickle charger that I used with no probs on my 2005 K1200GT. On the new bike it appears that the charger does not work by simply plugging it into the accessory socket. What do I have to do to get the trickle charger working or do I have to wire up a separate loom?

Your charger wont work without by passing the canbus electrical system. You need to add another power outlet which goes directly to the battery with a 15 amp fuse, then your set.

You either have to loom it, or add another power port right to the battery. Your old style charger won't sufficiently work the new battery to top it off and de-sulfide it and the battery will eventually die if you don't ride a lot. That's ok, as we've found these batteries to be underpowered and a pain. Odyssey rawks!

BTW, welcome mate!

Put in another socket wired directly to the battery. Works great and I, also just got the Odyssey battery. (by the way, grifscoots, I may be moving to the hill country in about a year or so. Will be bringing Pearl with me and dodging the deer there with you)

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

If I do leave, I will miss the Ortega. There's lots of stuff in Texas, and no Income tax and a much superior Political climate.
