Impressed.

I flew out to Tucson, AZ and picked up my new 09 K1300GT on May 4. Proceeded to enjoy a wild west tour with my girl taking us from Tucson to Flagstaff, Zion to Vegas...thru the desert to San Luis Obispo, then north to three nights off the bike in San Francisco. She flew home and I rode the bike home. Taking my time...getting to know it.

What a f**king machine.

Coming off an 05 R1200GS (yawn), this is like finding God. Not like. IS.

The seat is terrible, but that don't bafront me. If there is anyone considering buying one of the exquisitely detailed and thoroughly engineered motorcycles, please post your question and I will give you some direct feedback as I have just spent 17 straight days and 5600 miles on one.

Sounds like you both had a great tour.

Too bad you made it back home already. There are a number of excellent custom seat makers out here on the west coast. It would have been well worth your time to spend a morning at one of them . . .

And don't put down the 12GS too much - I've seen guys ride those like they're on rails.

But yeah, I'll take that 160 HP any day over a viby twin.

But like bird said, where are the pics? We want to make sure you didn't pick one of the slow colors.

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Why did you go all the way to Tucson to purchase the bike? You porobably could have gotten a similar deal locally unless the dealer out there is your blood relative or you just wanted to show your girl a good time?

Sounds like a great trip....

Pics coming...

I have to wait till I get my laptop home to post pics, they are all on that.

Flew out to Tucson cuz a good friend of mine (we worked as Edelweiss tour guides together in 04/05) works as a salseman at Iron Horse MC there, and I thought it was a good starting point for the ride. Flagstaff>Grand Canyon>Zion>Vegas>CA.

Everything went perfectly except we didn't see the Grand Canyon. I thought I would be clever and take her to the quieter, more scenic north rim but the road was closed. I should have known to check on that. We missed the road opening by a couple of days.

California HWY 1 was just unbelieveable. Cold and foggy in some spots, hot and humid in others. We rode through a 30 degree temp swing at one point.

Pics later today...

Yeah I wanted to do something like that (Fly out west from FL to pick up the bike and ride it back), but the balance between vacation time (and wanting to get the bike) didn't mesh up.

Sounds like a great trip. Now that I have a GT, I'll have to ride out to those places from here...

Looking forward to the pics. I did an extended test ride last week, and was shocked at how much fun it was to ride this bike. I am waiting for a couple of things to happen at work, then will pick one up. Hopefully by the end of the Summer.
