K1200GT Year-by-Year Changes??

Hello all - I'm shopping for a new generation GT and wondering if anyone knows where I can find a post listing the year-by-year changes / differences from 2005 thru 2008??

...or maybe there is no significant difference??? What about reliability?? Better after 2005??

Any input would be appreciated.

A fast recap.
2006 Total new model, not related to any prior model except name
2007 & 2008, eveolutionary changes to fueling ( airbox components), change in seats and brake actuation.

2009. A total rework of the 2006-2008 model, fixing all of the well known and not well known issues, upping the size of the engine & HP, and making it a new bike with some 84 changes or so..

Others will fill you in with many many more details.

That's a strange range of years. The 2006+ is completely different than the 2005. If you are considering 2005, you might as well consider earlier years too.

The single biggest change is that the '06 GTs have the powered brakes, while the later years don't.

The '07 and newer bikes had additional options, such as ASC, TPM, HID, etc.

There were also a number of small changes made over '06, '07, and '08 to enhance reliability and comfort. Things like a different seat, cam chain tensioner, clutch bits, oil tank cap, air box, and of course, various software upgrades.

And of course, some color changes over the years, most notably that Crystal Grey Metallic ('06-'07) was changed to Aventurine Silver ('08).

None of these by itself is a deal-breaker (except maybe the air box), but there are still some advantages to getting as new a bike as you can afford. Plus having a good dealer to take care of those thing particular to your bike is invaluable.

'02 Mauve Metallic K12LTC, 106K miles and sold
BMWLT#145, IBA# 366, MOA# 111996, SCMA# 24032

All lower 48 states plus Alaska on the K13GT in two weeks . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

2005 AND EARLIER = 1ST GENERATION K1200GT
2006-2008 = 2ND GENERATION K1200GT
2009+ = K1300GT

If you're looking at a 2008 try to find one with a VIN Number higher than ZN47596 which is when I believe the new airboxes/computer mapping was started. see: http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/showth...d+dates+number

Yep, I'm baaaack
I just picked up a left over 2008 K1200GT a week ago from Max BMW. Call me crazy after all the problems I had with my 2006, but I sure do love that K-bike "feeling"! Wish me better luck with this one...coach

Good luck with it.

Actually, the later '08 bikes are pretty good overall. Maybe you'll get lucky this time out.
