The big shim

I went down to son's house in Escondido this morning to do the shim job on the stepper motor. He and I have identical '07 GTs, and he had already taken his stepper motor out and cable-tied it to the side on a previous occasion, so he was pretty well-versed in what to do. We both shimmed ours out using new screws and flat washers he had already bought for the purpose.

On the way home, I was trying to convince myself I felt a difference, and I just wasn't really sure whether I was fooling myself or not. Anyway, I got almost all the way home and stopped at a stoplight with a straight-away ahead and no traffic. I got off the line quickly, but not really WFO, and when the tach went through about 5-6K, I whacked open the throttle and just hung on. It seems to get to redline much faster than before, and when it got to about 8-9K the front end got light and the tire started skipping off the pavement. It's never done that before. So, I guess it works, but for me, there's not really any difference with my riding style.

Got to play with the grandkids and that made it worthwhile.

Shoulda done the PowerFRK while you where in there. That would have made an immediately noticeable difference all across the rev range . . .

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Might have, but didn't know much about it. I think I'm done trying to make it better anyway. When I first bought it I thought it was about as good as it gets.

I have mine removed and don't really notice a difference however, like you I don't really open it up all the way until the revs are up. The stepper motor is only in effect under ~6K RPMs. Waiting like you did until the revs were up before going WFO means you most likely would have the same results whether it was shimmed or not.
