Is my steering damper worn out?

I have an 07 GT with 34,000 on it. Just got back from riding around the southeast. After riding for a few hours at higher speeds, I notice that the steering is a little stiff and the bike will oscillate back and forth at lower speeds and it takes concentration to track a line. I have a new set of Metzlers ( 2000 on them ) on, but it was doing this with the Michelins I had on prior to this as well. Anyone else ever experience this?

Check your air pressure in the tires.

Mine has done this. And the tire pressure was low.

Mine used to do this too. I put a few drops of graphite penetrating oil on the damper bits n bobs and it was sorted.

I had the problem, and the dealer had to replace some sort of lower front steering bearing set up (sorry, I don't know the proper terminolgy--I don't think this bike has true "steering damper.). It was expensive,.but worked.

There was a steering damper recall for a total of 62 K1200GTs manufactured between 2 April 2007 and 12 May 2007. Mine was one of them.

From the recall:

"It is possible for the coating to separate from the inside face of the steering damper housing. If this happened, the coating could partially clog the oil bores within the damper. If this occurred, the steering damper could become stiff."

They also note:

"You must have this problem corrected promptly. Failure to observe the following precautions, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash."

(The precautions are 1. Contact your dealer. 2. Should you need BMW Roadside Assistance... and 3. Advise other riders of the motorcycle.)

I read on here awhile back that a few ball joints were seizing.
