Castrol SAF XO?

Anybody know what weight the Castrol SAF XO that BMW spec's for the final drive is...75w-90 or 140? Does it matter if I use Valvoline 75w-90 or 75w-140 synth?

The dealers that I trust all say to use the 75w-140 synth.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

BMW recommends Castrol SAF XO which is a 75W-90 oil. I have heard of dealers quoting 75W-140 but I'm not aware of a single place where such advice is mentioned in writing by BMW. I don't think it matters much which particular brand of synthetic 75W-90 GL-5 oil you use but before I varied from written recommendations regarding weight and went to a 75W-140 I would want to see some official backup for it.

The Castrol is unavailable in the USA. I use the Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90 http://www.amsoil.com/a/synthetic-gear-oil might want to take a look at this gear lube comparison http://www.amsoil.com/products/gearl...hitePaper.aspx
