Brake Failure and rear brake issue

Had new tyres fitted today on my 06 1200GT II. Riding away my brake failure light and red triangle came on. On further inspection the tyre fitter had not fitted the ABS sensor wire in the correct clips at the front end causing it to chafe and short out. A bit of tape worked for a few minutes but the light is back on. The tyre fitters have done the decent thing and are ordering a new sensor and cable. I might be imagining it but when the brake failure light cuts in the rear brake becomes very poor and virtually ineffective, is this normal or am I actually imagining it? Has something else happened? I can't see anything
