EZ Pass in a Top Box, will it work?

A friend loaned me his 28ltr (small one) top box for my trip to the RA Rally this week.I was wondering if anyone has mounted an Ez Pass in a top box and did it work OK? I read somewhere that a fellow had mounted an EZ Pass under the battery cover on a GT and it worked I'm thinking that right under the cover of a top box ought to work too, thoughts anyone?

Hi Erik,

I sometimes forget to take it out of a side case or glove box. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If I know I'm going to need it I stick it in the map pocket of my tank bag.

Under the battery cover is a good idea. That's where I stashed my XM puck.

Thanks Tom, I could just put it in the inside pocket of my jacket too, was thinking it would be nice to have it out of the way..

I had it in top of the bag and it did not work, what a PIA. I think I will tie wrap it to the break reservoir next time I am going for a ride that I will need it.

That's where I carry mine and it works every time.

On the New York thruway there were times when the EZ pass would work when out of site in spots such as a glove box, top case, tank bag or jacket, and times when it would not. I got tired of it working when I got on the thruway and not when I got a clear plastic sleeve to put the transponder in and strap it to my arm.

It works well for me because I am not on the toll roads that often. If I was I would use a more permanent solution.

I have min in a little plastic box that suctions cups to the lower left part of my windshield, when I know that I will need it. For a more "permanent solution, a velcroed strip on the windshield or above the instrument panel should be just fine. I found that pockets, glove box etc are not reliable enough.

Like most of you I had problems with the EZ-Pass, it worked hit or miss, actually more miss. I tried moving it all over the bike, but nothing seemed to work. Finally I realized maybe something was wrong with the EZ-Pass. I sent it back for a replacement, and just got back from a ride which put me through at least a dozen toll booths, and it didn't miss once. Just keep that in mind guys, these things are not perfect, and they do send out lemons.

I just mounted mine in my top case (Same orientation as on a windshield of a vehicle and took a test run on the NYS Thruway. No problem in the 5 mph entry lane, no problem in the 20 mph exit lanes (Except my Laser falses in those).
