another bulb bites the dust

What's up with this? This has to the 4th or 5th low beam bulb I've replaced in 2 yrs. The upside is I can change the bulb in about 15 min. now.

I'm smelling and HID system in the near future. To those of you with HID installed, do those bulbs last longer than 3 or 4 months?

My HID is still running strong. Hasn't been in that long though. Wish it wasn't as blue (it's about 6000K). Maybe 4500-5000K would be more complementary to the other lamps in the head (like the parking and high-beam which seem more orange in color).

Did manage to blow out the rear taillight bulb recently which threw the "yellow triangle with the exclamation mark" up on the dash. A #1057 is a hard find away from the BMW shop, but some Audi dealerships have them since most all car part stores didn't.

You may already be aware of this, but when you change the bulbs it's critical not to touch the glass. the oil from your fingers will create a hot spot on the bulb, and greatly shorten it's life. Next you may ask how the hell can I do that without touching the bulb. The key is latex surgical gloves, never leave home without a spare bulb wrapped in a pair of surgical gloves usually in the bottom of my tank bag.

When I pull it out of the package, I grab it by the prongs and slide it into place, then lock it in place and plug it in.

If you can do that without touching the glass your a better man than me Charlie Brown. Try it once with the latex gloves what do you have to loose, worst case it burns out like all the others, but I bet you touch the bulb, and don't realize it.

yeah, I probably do trying to get it and my big, fat hand into that tiny little space.

I gotta seriously look into HID.

Do the HID

It takes more time to take the tuperware off and put it back on than to do the HID.

About 5300 miles on my conversion and it really lights up the rode, and no bulbs to burn out

HID ALL DA WAY!!!! Like GMack said around the 4k range should be closest to the other stockers. i had a 6300 in my RT and I grew to love it but then compared to the rest is looked out of place. On the other hand i didn't have to use the high beam anymore!

You probably could have paid for a HID kit by now with your replacement bulbs. I believe most all come with two so if one burns out prematurly you've got a backup!

most are easy pulg and play.

I used this one, cheap, but expensive shipping.
