First Ride Home, New K1300GT, Instrument Light Issue?

Hi, to all. I just switched from a 2004 RT to my new K1300GT! The RT feels like a whale in comparison! My first impressions are overwhelming positive. One issue- I rode home (about 50 miles) in the rain in overcast skies and the instrument panel lights kept turning on and off (very annoying). I adjusted the dimmer but the issue remains. I read the manual (how about that) and looked at threads to discover the light sensor (the little dot on the screen). Is this "normal" or do I have a lighting issue?

This is my first post and I am looking forward to being a part of this group. Regards, to all.

For what it's worth mine does exactly the same and for the same reason - the lights come on automatically when the light level is low enough to trigger the sensor. The dimmer will not effect this as all it does is adjust the brightness of the display. As far as I'm aware you have only 2 options, put some tape over the sensor so your display is permanently on or adjut the dimmer to such a low level that it doesn't annoy you any more. You could always do what I do and just open the throttle - that takes my mind off it straight away!

Thanks for the reply, Dazzle

Hi, Dazzle: Thanks for the reply. I woke up this morning at 4am to sit in the garage looking at my bike, and then it occurred to me- go for a ride to test the lights! Someday, I hope to get to Ireland as my Dad's side of the family originated from your home. Have a great weekend. Regards

The instrument panel lights do cycle on and off in certain conditions. I notice it most on a stormy day when cloud cover gets so heavy the panel lights come on it rains like hell we ride out of it things loghten up and the light goes off again. In and out of tunnels gaives the same effect. Sounds like yours is working fine.

It's not a bug, it's a feature .

You will come to appreciate this feature when you drive into a dark tunnel and the dashboard lights up all by itself.
