Headlight bulbs

As I have been commenting on on another thread, I ordered a xenon kit for my xenon-less 07 GT. I found a kit on ebay for $20, OH plus $30 to ship! (knew there had to be a catch somewhere).
So I am thinking on installing a better pair of highbeam H7 bulbs as long as I am doing it.
The ones I think I want to try are Philips X-Treme Power. An independent test was done a couple years ago in England and they rated these the highest:

Wonder if anyone else has tried different highbeam bulbs in a GT.

I just installed a Silverstar (Ultra or Extra, something like that..) on my K1200RS.....In my opinion......not worth the $30.00 bucks I paid for it......and you will be trading bulb life for some (not a lot....) extra brightness.

I've gone through 4 bulbs in 2yrs. The next time I change it out will be for an HID system.

20 bucks for the kit huh. Let us know how it is when you get it. I thought 90 bucks for the CQ kit was a good deal, but 20 seems too good to be true. Does it come with the bulb? I put some Silverstars in the high beams and they work OK...worth the extra $$.....eh....maybe, they get drowned out pretty well by the PIAA's.....but it is the bike after all and we all tend to spend $$ on them even if it's only a tiny improvement.

My guess is for $20, it's gonna be just a high dollar bulb. But I could be wrong.

I'll put a few links up.
OK, not to put anyone in particular on the SPOT, here is a link to post that steered me in the direction of this kit:
http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/showpo...34&postcount=5

Here is a link to the eBay auction where I bought it. OH and remember I said the shipping is $30 so I am really paying $50. I assume this is a payment stepper-upper for the seller, but OTOH it is coming from Honk Kong:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...SA:MOTORS:1123

Hopefully that link works. As an added selling point to me, the "color range" or however it should be described, is 4300K, which seems to be the ideal range, it's what the manufacturers all use and say is the most normal, comfortable range. It's hard to find them in this color range. My second choice would be 5000K. I'm not sure if this seller has another 4300K kit up for auction or not.

But yeah check out the auction, has a picture and is definitely an HID kit, not a blue halogen bulb or anything like that (not xenon filled incandescent either).

Still wondering on the high beam H7s, I can get a pair of those Philips bulbs, they are not a coated "blue" bulb but are supposed to be way brighter, even at 35W.

Yes, low beams seem to burn out every 12 months. I have had Piaa all-weather (yellow-gold) higher output bulbs in both high beams-(3 years and still going strong). Great for rain and fog-and really just good when u need to use high beam. Also use the Piaa X1100 mounted on mirror mounts for extra light.

I would really like more light, I know just converting to Xenon will be a big help. The one thing I wish my GT would have came with. I haven't really been tempted on aux lighting, knowing I was sure I would get around to the Xenon upgrade.
I could probably wait and see how satisified I am with the Xenon before I screw around with different high beam H7 bulbs.
I have had my bike for a little more than a year and haven't blown any headlight bulbs as of yet. About 5500 miles.

Here is a link to a independent test of headlight bulbs, where I read about the Philips X-Treme bulbs:

I read the Ebay add a couple of times before I bought it.

You really do get the bulb, ballest and connection wiring.

Cheap??? with expensive shipping but still cheap. I installed it late 2007, it is still going strong.
