Hella Supertone Install

Happy New Year!

Has anybody installed a set of Hella Supertone horns on a 2008 K12GT? I was considering the Stebel set-up but got somewhat scared off by the following motorcycle horn review in WebBIke World:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...comparison.htm

Thanks as always for any advice or redirection in my thinking. The Hellas are very strange sounding (horrible in fact), but I guess they really do the job on the cagers.

Northeastern MA got about 10" of snow last 24-36 hours. I just go out to my garage and stare at the blue Wunderlich blanket over my bike and the battery tender green light.

Please ride safely...and not on snow/ice/sand.

Interesting. I've never had a problem with my Stebel Nautilus horn, and I know of dozens of riders who have installed these and so far, I haven't heard of a single failure.

If webBikeWorld had two bad horns that's too bad, but dismissing the entire product line seems a bit over the top. The only issue I found with the Stebel horns is that price varied dramatically between different vendors, so it paid to shop around a bit.

Oh well, I guess Ill just stick with my crappy old Nautilus until it fails on me . . .

Sorry that I don't have any info on the Hella Supertones for you.

My Stebel Nautilus horn works great and I've had no problems what so ever. The nautilus is VERY LOUD !!! I like web bike world but they should have got a stebel that works for that comparison.

Friends,

Thanks for all the great feedback. I'm still thinking Stebels just because all of you have had such great success with them.

Semper_Fi (Luis) has a set and is going to do an install on his K13GT soon. I may head over to his garage and see how it goes...that is, if he'll have me as an observer.

If I recall, abercrombie_pafoofnick (Dale) was going to see if he could get his friend to make up some additional brackets that others could use. Has anybody seen any additional information whether he had any luck or not? That seems to be a really clean install and has the horn positioned for best sound distribution to the cagers.

Don't know who makes them, but in the most recent Griots Garage catalog (#304) on page 48, there are some various sized "Italian Air Horns" that seem interesting. Like the Stebel, the pump is steel and the horns are plastic. You can check them out here as well:

Thanks again for the advice.

Please ride safely!

Well golly gee! When you look at the catalog image closely, note who actually makes the horns. Stebel!! Funny thing huh?

Off to watch the Isle of Man TT on Discovery HD...

Please ride safely!

I actually have this dual air horn installed for over a year on my k12GT. I removed the original horn and relocated the wiring to the left site of the bike near the ABS unit. Then I made up a bracket that mounts under the rear side of the ABS unit to the frame. The relay and fuse for the new horn is mounted to the bracket to form a compact assembly. The original horn wiring including plug and receptacle from old horn are used to activate the relay. Voltage supply to the relay is direct via in-line fuse to the battery. The new horn is as loud as a two tone car horn and gets the attention of cage drivers. All my fellow GT club members are planning to retro fit their machines with this setup... it is worth the effort.

Cost$$$$?

What are the Stebel owners paying for their horns and where might I find
a decent price?
Pirates Lair?
I think was around $55.00, sound reasonable?
