Anyone tried a K&N air filter

Ive got an oil change coming up and was thinking about throwing a new air cleaner in at the same time.
Anyone got any experience with a K&N on a 1200 without doing any other performance mods?

K & N

I installed a K&N the first oil change. it was shaped like a cone and it gave more surface area than the original one that was full of bug guts after 2000km's. Now I clean it and service it once a year and all seems good.

I've used them for a while and never had a problem. They basically last forever. Just a good cleaning now and then and they're good to go.

K&N

The most comprehensive analysis I have ever seen on the subject,

BMWmotorcycletech.info/K%20&%20N.htm

It says as I have always suspected of washable filters

Hope this helps

I'll stick with paper

Yep got to agree with Snowbum again......not the first time I got good info out of his website!
I'll stick with paper too , but I screened the air intake, so less bug parts on the filter and inside the air box!

BMW's recommendation of replacing the filter at 20,000Km...... But it depends on where and how you ride too.....faster means more air and possibly dirt going through your filter! My K100RS, only replaced the filter twice in 130,000 Km.......my R100GS, once in 90,000+. Never noticed any ill effects either.....! But I do look at them every once in a while, shake out the dust and very very very lightly blow through them with compressed air!

But I am considering using them Pre-filter sacks the off road guys use, will look into them next time I am in "Town" and see if I can fit them on my bike.

And if I can avoid the PITA of removing, washing and oiling the filter on my bike....that means a couple more hours on the road.....!
