Tires....

Is this another touchy subject? Like the Which oil is better?

I rode Michelin PR2's on the ST and LOVED them. The GT is a little heavier and I HATE the tires on there now. I have nearly 9K on them and I want them OFF!!! I do a lot of IBA rides but I love the twisties too, which is why I liked the PR2's so well.

Are tires the same as helmets? Gotta go with what feels the best.

Any thoughts....

Tina,

I went with the PR2s and I think they're perfect for this bike. They stay where you point and stick like glue in the curves even at extreme lean angles. No squirmies or anything unpredictable. Just make sure you ask how much before you have them mounted or better yet shop around first. I didn't and I ended up with the most expensive set of motorcycle tires I've ever purchased.

Hope to see you around the VB area sometime!

I'm running the Avon ST Storm, a 1000 miles in FL isn't really a test for them but I'll be going to Charleston and Athens Thursday and Friday in the rain so I should have a better idea how they feel.

Well, this is what I think about GT tires, with the latest update here.

My short answer is that the Z6's felt good but didn't last, the BT021's slipped a bit in the wet, the PR2's lasted but wore badly, and the Roadsmarts didn't last and wore badly. The Storms gave me the best combination of wet & dry traction, handling for the life of the tire, and decent mileage. The Storms really complement the sport-touring aspect of the GT.

And there are new Storm 2's out now, although I haven't tried them yet.

I"ve even run a few sets of ME880s for week-long Rallies. I hate how they feel and how they slip in the wet, but they do get the mileage, which is important when you can't afford the time to change out tires mid-trip.

But in the end, you have to go with what you're happy with on your bike.

I get at least 50% more life out of a set of PR2's that any other tire I've tried. They stick well at all angles, they're good in the wet, they haven't worn funny and .....I don't have to worry about changing the things every road trip. To me they're great for that reason alone.

What is too expensive? I see Bike Bandit has a set for around $300. Having never purchased tires for my 07 gt yet, I have no idea what is too much and what is a good deal!

Thanks

+1 on the Avon Storms. The new Storm 2's sound like the perfect tire for our GT's.

I use the PR2s exclusively on my GT (2 sets), and on my previous one (2 sets). I even changed my Ducati over to Pilot Power 2s because I like the PR2s so much. If you liked them before, you'll like them again.

PR2 isn't the same as Pilot Power 2, PR=Pilot Road, not the same tire. Unless you are saying you bought Pilot Power based on the fact that you like the PR2??
