09 K1300GT foul smell during rides...clutch?

Often I can smell a very acrid and foul odor coming from the bike upon stopping. Especially after running it hard. Not abusive, just spirited throttle, downshifting, etc...I am thinking it is the clutch. Anyone else experiencing this? Sometimes, it's so bad it gives me an instant headache and I have taken to not breathing until I start moving again.

The bike is a typical BMW rock box shifter...clunk into first, notchy 1-2 shifting...etc. I am malpleased at the shift/clutch performance.

I thought they got this figured out.

It would be rare to smell the clutch burning. It's all sealed up and if there were a big enough hole for that much stink to come through then you'd see oil some where too. Like on your garage floor. Also if you don't notice the clutch doing anything wrong like serious judder or squeal or clunk then I'd tend to look elsewhere.

Does it also do it if you just leave it parked and it gets hot?

If it has a slight bad egg smell it's probably just the catalyser in the exhaust system.

I asked about this also a few months ago, no one had heard of it. My bike sometimes stinks after a higher revving event like a good road, its exhaust and I assumed then and still do that its something to do with the catalytic converter. I have a 70+ year old car so I know what burnt oil smells like and this is not it but now that my 09 GT is burning oil, I wonder if that is the smell.

Only time I've smelled mine is running through some stagnant water, oil on the pipes,or a gas leak out of the cheap plastic fuel connection (which shows up as a yellow residue on the left-hand side too when it gets bad enough to sop up into that fiberglass mat under the tank too.). Sometimes a bunch of hard braking too.

On a dry clutch like an RT or GS, yeah, the clutch can smell at times.

I get it too from time to time, more so since I added a Booster Plug. I just assumed it was a little extra raw fuel making it to the CAT and burning off.
