ESA Preload no-go

Went for a nice fall ride with the SO yesterday. Beautiful fall colors but the ride would have been better if the preload function would have worked. Had been working up until yesterday.

Any ideas? Can change dampening values by tapping the button but a prolonged push does not toggle the helmet/luggage values.

Thanks,
Jeff

Re boot?

I'd try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery until someone with better info comes along.

Could be swichgear. That's what it was with mine. Took a month to finally get the right one. Sucks riding 2 up on default doesn't it?

Aside from the obvious, like making sure key is on and the bike is in neutral before attempting to change the preload value, you'll probably need to visit your local BMW guru and have them trouble-shoot it.

Initial Success, or Total Failure.

Try changing it with the bike "unladen" as they say, try it with no one sitting on it. If you try it while 2-up, it might not be able to quite crank it higher.

happened to me also, nothing worked, even disconnecting the battery did nothing. Took it down and the dealer "re-energized the shock" I asked what that mean and he he says its a command on their computer, that worked, but its scary to think about once the warranty expires.

How do you even change it to 2 up ESA? The dealer showed me once, when I first test road one.

It's in your manual, but you start it up, hold the ESA button down for awhile, while looking at the display (OBS or whatever, on the bottom of the screen) and you will see one of the 3 pictograms for solo, solo with luggage, or 2 up with luggage. Pretty easy if the bike feels like cooperating. Can't do it on the move though, on the move you can only change the damping (comfort, normal or sport).
