Heated gear ... accessory plugs or direct to battery?

How much juice can the accessory plugs on my GT handle? Should I get one of these?

Or should I run a separate line straight to the battery?

Run straight to the battery using the fused harness supplied with the heated gear, or else add a fuse box and run through that.

The factory socket is CANbus limited to 5 amps, which isn't enough for a full heated jacket, much less socks, pants, gloves, etc.

Some folks have added another BMW-style socket down next to the factory one, which is wired direct to the battery. This works well too, and there are pre-wired kits available, maintaining that "factory look". Although you'd still need an adapter plug like you pictured if you go this route.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Direct ot Battery

I got about 5 miles on my then new GT in late October here in Chicago when the GPS, XM, radar and all my electric gear went dead. And I was leaving on 3 day trip... When I got home I ordered two Powerlet harnesses and wired the outlets directly to the battery. Now my wife and I are toasty without having to worry about the Canbus.
