Ye Olde Center Stand Issue

I have a 2008 K1200GT. My center stand has NOT broken, but after looking at all the problems folks have had on here, and taking a long look at the stand itself, I think it very well might.

So, I could remove it, weld braces, etc, but I was considering replacing the part with a later-model K1300GT part, particularly after looking at a K1300 stand in the (somewhat) local showroom. Much better 2nd generation version.

Now, I now folks have talked about that on here, but I was going to order the part from the dealer and have them do the replacement while I have other service done.

Has anybody done it? Is it a direct swap out? Does the dealer need to order any additional parts to make it work (new pad, spring, etc.)?

It's not cheap, but I'd really like to have one less thing to worry about. I'll probably get my Dad to weld me up some braces on the original one (as I've seen other examples on here) and keep it as a "spare". But right now, I'm looking for a quick fix.

I did a search here, and could find a few comments that they should swap, but nobody who has actually done the swap.

I guess I'll give it a go and be a pioneer then...

Just curious, but why pay all that cash for a K13 center stand, just to have your dad weld up a "spare" out of your old one?

I'd just have him weld yours up and be done with it. Don't forget to strengthen the stops as well.

Dad is far away this time of year (he moves seasonally). I can eventually get him to do it (or mail him the old one I guess), but I have a trip coming up and have the bike in the shop (for recall work) this week anyhow.

Thought I might have them do it and have one less thing to worry about on the trip (particularly when we are loaded with stuff). No, it's definitely not the cheapest way to go.

I do usually try to do as much work on the bike myself that I can, but this was kind of serendipitous.

Just curious if anybody else had done it with success.
