Changing ESA setting drops the frame?

I saw on another thread that the bike should noticeably move down (2-3 cm.) when the setting is changed from two up to one up.

I can't feel anything - has this been the same experience for others? I was always suspicious because I couldn't feel a significant difference on a ride after I have set it to a different settings.

We've had some reports of the ESA failing such that the shock doesn't adjust at all. That sounds like what you're seeing.

Normally, shocks are a wear item, not covered under warranty. But some dealers have been able to replace them as a warranty item due to ESA failure (as opposed to just normal wearing out).

Might be worth taking it to the dealer for a diagnosis . . .

When you go from two up with bags comfort the ESA sets the suspension to the maximum travel. Sitting on the bike solo, no bags, you can literally feel the bike squat when you switch from the two up with bags comfort to solo no bags sport.

When I cycle the spring preload setting the rear suspension moves noticeably. I try not to put too much weight on it when I'm changing the preload, but the dampening is less noticeable. I find while cutting through New York City potholes if I have it set to sport you can jar loose a filling, by the same token if you ride the Blueridge parkway set to comfort the bike wallows into the corners. Make sure you are meeting the preconditions to change the preload settings. Bike running in neutral if I remember correctly side stand up then cycle the preload if you go from one rider no bags up to two riders with bags you should feel the rear of the bike come up. Have someone watch the spring while you cycle it to see what happens.
