Headlight aim question

Took the bike out for an inaugural run this evening around the "block" here in the foothills of the Appalachians and noticed the headlight seems to me to be aiming high. What is normal for the K1300GT? It hits the ground about ten to twelve feet in front of the bike and then lights up the world in front, including tree branches overhead. Is this fairly normal or does it sound like it needs adjusting? I feel like I'm blinding oncoming traffic.

I do however LOVE how bright it is compared to my old bike. Nothing like an HID headlight.

Yep, HID rocks.

BMW's official headlight adjustment procedure starts with putting the bike on a level surface 10 meters from a wall. Sit on the bike (with ESA in Solo Rider mode if you have that), and have someone measure the height of the center of the headlight and mark that height onto the wall. The light/dark cutoff line should be 15 cm below that mark.

What most riders do is just note when following random cars if the headlight light/dark cutoff can be seen on the car's trunk, or if it is shooting over the trunk edge and into the car's passenger cabin, then adjust as necessary.

Well I wasn't crazy, my headlight IS shooting for the stars, literally. Seems a part popped off, and the local BMW dealer has ordered a complete new headlight assembly which will be covered under warranty. So I guess I won't be driving much at night until the new headlight is installed.

So THAT'S what it's supposed to look like! Kind of makes a huge difference to have the new headlight assembly installed and aimed correctly. Not that I didn't mind seeing what was overhead or signaling to local traffic copters, but this is much better. The dealer also fixed my Oil display so it now is working properly. Still amazed that BMW would rather replace an entire $700.00 part versus a $.05 one. But that's their call I suppose.

Here's hoping to this fix being permanent.
