Rear Lights on K12GT

The warning light came on my display and that lovely little symbol that tells you a light is burning out. The arrow pointed at me so I knew it was one of the rear lights.

I remove the four screws and found the one of the middle lights was burned out. I replaced them both (they are both four years old and I figured the other one was probably close to going out also).

Anyway, after replacing the bulbs and putting the cover back on, I started the bike and the display still shows the light being out. I should mention that I was pretty sure I had connected everything back the way it was supposed to be.

Did I miss a step?

Did both new bulbs light up? if so, maybe a trip to the dealer to reset the computer may be in order?.

Nope.. only the one that was originally lit. Which leads me to think either I bought a defective bulb or there might be something wrong with the socket (or wiring).

I was going to do it again today to see if I missed a wire or something.

If one bulb lights up, and the other doesn't, then swap the bulbs between the two sockets. If the problem moves ("good" side now dead, and "dead" side now good), it's the bulb. If it doesn't move, then you have a wiring issue somewhere.

Do you own a GS-911 or know someone close in Cali who does?

Thanks folks, for all of the help and suggestions.

I can't explain it, but the lights are working perfectly. I started the bike today and they were working.

I'll be keeping an eye on them.

I'll add that one time my tail light socket wasn't making a good connection with the lamp and I got a fault which went away when I bent the springy thing to make it tighter on the lamp. Lamp seemed sort of loose in the socket too which was an indication that the circuit's brain might be thinking a lamp was out.
