Need Opinion on EBC HH brakes

I need to replace the front pads...

Can someone tell me if the EBC FA335/441 HH pads are the way to go?

I commute 70 miles a day with a lot of stop and go on the highways...

Thanks!!!!

Mark

I'm using the EBC HH compound on my RT and like them, excellent grip and linear feel. I think they are a little harder on the rotors than the stock compound though. I will use them on my GT when the brake pads need replacing.

Yes and no.

Some of the EBC pads do have the slot for the wear sensor, but they don't sell the sensor wire itself. No one does, except BMW, and then only with a new set of pads. I tried finding a replacement sensor wire, even going to EBC's UK factory, but it's just not available.

I did swap the sensors from my old pads to my new EBC pads a couple of times, but after that I gave up and just disabled the sensor by shorting the wire up at the first plug. See this thread for details and pics. Never had a problem after that.

Here are the EBC pads that you'll need:

Rear Pads FA438HH

Front Left Pads FA335HH

Front Right Pads FA441HH

Note that the only difference between the FA441HH front right pads and the FA335HH front left pads is that the FA441HH pads have a cutout to fit the sensor wire. So if you don't care about the brake pad warning light, those two part numbers are interchangeable. I imagine there's a non-sensor-cutout version of the FA438HH rear pads as well, but I never bothered to chase it down.

A Google search on those part numbers will get you a full set of quality EBC pads with shipping for less than the cost of one set of BMW pads.

Man, I still know way too much about a bike that I haven't ridden in over a year . . .

I thought I read somewhere that fitting HH sintered pads wasnt recommended on the REAR of these bikes as it upsets the linked braking??

You probably saw that speculated but I don't think there's any real truth to it. Many riders are using the same compound on front and back without any problem.

There was a discussion about this a while back. Some riders opted to use SBS brake pads based on their pad material.

I never had any issue with the EBC pads, and I went through quite a few sets.
