Final Drive Oil change

This is a bit long winded, but stay with me.

So I did my FD oil change today on the new FD(Warranty) after having covered 600miles.

Heres the strange thing. On Thursday I popped into a dealer to buy the oil and any sealing washers needed, he didnt sell the oil in small bottles but had the drain plug washer, which he gave me, a copper washer, I didnt know any different.

I then went to another dealer to get the oil and he asked me, did I have the O ring? What O ring I said, for the drain plug he says. I tell him another dealer gave me a copper washer, wrong he says, its an O ring, and supplies me the O ring.

I asked both dealers about a seal for the fill plug, both said there isnt one, you fill it through the speed sensor which also has an O ring, but you wont need to replace it.

So, to today and the job, pops the wheel and caliper off and look here..........

Yep, a fill plug, 6mm Hex key and guess what, the copper washer that the first dealer gave me fits, but Ive just checked the BMW fiche, and it isnt shown, so an uncatalogued feature update. That sounds familiar, Bill Gates speak for bugs if I remember rightly

I've changed my gear oil many times.
Never have replaced any o'rings or washers. I don't use the speed sensor plug either. I do the rotate the rear assembly thing drain from the dumb 3 o'clock position plaug and while in the shaft area I lube the splines.

Been fine so far....44k miles
