Oil Change Interval

Not tryong to start a huge debate, but I am looking for opinions.

I changed oil on my 08 K1200GT and filled her with Castrol RS 5w-40 synthetic in hopes of quieting the dreaded clutch squeel when the engine is hot.

What interval do people change out synthetic oil?

I have heard everything from 3k, 5k, to 7,500 miles.

On my 2010 K1300GT I follow BMWs guidelines and change it every 6000 miles.

I use synthetic but am not doing extended drain intervals and sticking with 6,000 miles for oil and filter change. Oil, even expensive oil, and filters are cheaper than engine parts and labor.

Synthetic every 6K. Does not change any noise in the clutch.

I concur...clutch gobbles like a turkey in the field.

I was surprised when I got back some synthetic motorcycle Amsoil analysis back from Blackstone Labs. They told me I could probably use it out to 12,000 miles in the analysis report. Never heard a squeak out of the clutch on that bike either using it.

This year I may skip the oil change in the K1200GT and make it every two years. The S1000RR gets an annual change as it gets used more the the K1200GT does. I don't look at bike mileage that much anymore as I doubt if I do 8K miles on either so annual it became (Generally, in late winter before prime riding season.). The S will go off warranty this year anyway so it won't be that big of a deal for that purpose.

I sometimes think we over-medicate these bikes as it is. I doubt if I've ever changed ABS car brake fluid either. Auto tranny went to 100K miles before it got touched. When I had my Harleys, I would change them every 1,500 to 2,000 miles. Some at the local Harley shop go all anal when they can't be fit in within 20 miles of their due mileage service. Some do it far more often and clean them with a Q-Tip too. Some of the S guys do it after every race which is often less than 100 miles too. Whatever.

6-k and i do the driveshaft at that time aswell!!!

i've spent most my money on bike's boat's and broad's the rest i've wasted..

Nice, an oil thread

When I reach 8000 klm I begin planning the oil change. I happened to change oil/filter earlier because of a long trip coming up. Final drive and spline care every other oil change or at tire change which ever comes close to once a year. I run 2 to 3 sets of PR3s a year.. And before being asked I use Shell Rotella T6. (Synthetic)
