Knock sensor readings

I'm having a couple of issues with Rocket dying and I'm not sure if it was just a "fluke" or if something is up but I took it to my mechanic and he is seeing some weird readings and is looking for some additional info from other GT riders. Here's his question....

I am in need of some help. I have taken knock sensor voltage readings from a K1300GT with my GS911, the values seem improbable to me. If any one has a K1300GT and a GS911 I am curious to see what you have for voltages at idle and 2000 rpm. Also if anyone has a K1300GT and can drop by my shop so I can take the readings I would appreciate it.
Thank you, George

If anyone can help with this - please shoot me a PM or email.

TIA
Tina

Not so sure on the knock sensor readings, never have heard of anyone having a problem in this regard. The knock sensor input I believe would retard the ignition timing, and would this stall the engine?

What I and several others have had going on with regards to stalling is what is attributed a dirty fuel system, I had this earlier this year.

What worked for me is both using a fuel additive like Chevron Techron (I would recommend this, I found it right away at Autozone) combined with some "Top Tier" gas. If you have a Shell station nearby I'd get some of their V Power premium. I did a tank of that plus an appropriate amount of Techron. I had one stall after doing that (maybe 20 miles after filling up), has not done it since then. After that I got maybe 2 more fills on the normal gas I use, using the remainder of the Techron, and all has been fine. The Techron is sold in a quantity to treat 20 gallons, so yeah I got maybe 3 tanks out of one bottle, don't put it all in at once.

After my engine was rebuilt (long story but cam chain broke and bent valves, valve guides were out of spec so head was replaced and crank reground with new main bearings due to excessive wear) my knock sensor would set off the engine light every time I rode it. BMW NA says the knock sensor detects an actual noise, vibration or resonance frequency not detonation or "knock" as we know it. Bike ran great, no ping, no overheating, etc. Dealer spent $3500 trying to figure it out and could not. They thought it was the clutch basket but it was not. BMW NA could care less because bike was out of factory warranty. There was another bike in my region with a similar problem but to my knowledge it never got rectified either. Never did figure it out so I sold it cheap to someone with more patience. I was probably burnt out after waiting 13 months to get it right. Good Luck, keep us posted!

Thanks for the tips - I'll keep you posted.

As of now, I picked up my bike this morning - he changed the air filter (just because it was time to do so) and put some techron in it. We'll see how it goes from here. Maybe it was just a fluke kind of thing (I HOPE!)

I hate to mention it, but mine did that because the cam broke and it had jumped time...

It might be worth a look to dig inside a little and have a look around...including checking the cam timing...

1951, I wonder if they were a tooth off when they put your bike back together?

Good luck and let us know what you find!

Maybe, I have pretty good faith in the dealership but you never know. It ran better than new when I got it back. It even quit hesitating and cutting off when slowing down but like I said I ran out of patience. I just feel BMW should of had a recall on the cam chain, tensioner/gears but they had their head up their A$$. I expect more out of a $23,000 motorcycle plus $13,000 of repairs. However, I did get $5000 out of it with the engine light on!
