Im on my sixth set of tyres and only ever get about 5k out of the rear before the central section goes off, I always stick to factory pressures. Its a heavy powerful beast and will eat tyres unless you push it everywhere. Someone will be along in a minute to testify to getting 10k out of a set, thats a lot of pushing in my book.

I had a set of the Michelins and was not too impressed. I then tried a set of Metzeler Z6 Interacts and thought they were much better. Latest/Greatest is the Z8 Interact, I would recommend trying those instead, and just running recommended pressures.

I would deflate by one pound and monitor for improvement. The lower pressure will result in a larger contact patch - spreading the wear over a larger area.

I've found the book pressures to be good for curves but a bit much for highway riding by myself.

I've got 7k on PR2's and doing fine. Will change up to the PR3 when this wears out.

More Tires

I have just replaced my first set of PR3s with another set after 9,843 miles. I have never gotten more than 6K miles out of a set, so I am quite impressed with the new Michelin rubber. Having said that, I must admit that better than 70% of the mileage was on interstates at less than 75 mph (organized run). At this mileage and on so many straights, the tire was squared off down to the wear bars.
So far (225 miles) on the new set every thing works well, that is, except it gets squirelly in the snow. I had to ride up to Mount Laguna just to see about traction in the wet; water is good, snow is not. I am not expecting to get the same mileage as the previous set because most of my riding is in the mountains with very little straights, but I lick the tires.
Just chiming in for the what-its-worth category.

Round those edges

I have 6 to 7 k miles with two up and fully loaded without any problem. Combination of interstate and the twisties and only a little square. More interstate than twisties and the squared edge is definitley there. I will still get another 3 to 4 k miles without any problem on this set as we travelled in the Black Hills, Colorado, Washington, and British Columbia which smoothed out any edge that was starting to occur. As stated above look for the curves and enjoy. And re the rain, we were going down a pass in Colorado with at least 3/4" flowing down the steep curves. Not a sign of slippage, very good confidence builder.
