Question Racing Exhaust and Backfiring

2008 K1200GT - I recently installed a 2 Brothers racing slip on - graphite, black series. Looks and sounds great (loud). I am getting a fair amount of backfiring and am told by 2 Bros that this is just the normal function of the air intake system associated with the catalytic converter and that no harm can happen and that I just was not hearing the burble and occasional backfire through the 20lb stock can. (Could not hear anything through that thing!)

What experience do others have with new slip ons - especially a really wide open, straight-through system like the 2 Brothers VALE systems. Has anyone had any problems or had to make any adjustments?

I agree with this.

There is a way to get rid of the popping... remove the SLS or supplemental air injection system.

go to technical tab at the top right of page, click hall of wisdom, go to new generation, maintainence and to exhaust system.

I actually do hear an occasional backfire through the stock can on my 1300GT. I tried a Remus can on mine, but the noise was fun at first, then a bit much for day to day riding, the backfire on that was really loud, also the midrange was severely affected, so I ended up going back to the stock can. I may try the Akrapovic when Ive saved up a bit.

I have the Remus on mine and it does pop on deceleration. It is pretty loud but not overly so, IMHO.

I got a 2 Bros can with a stock one when I bought my '06 used. Never left the stock on it...always the 2 Bros...45k miles.

I too get an occassional pop/back fire but rare. Louder than stock but its livable and my wife doesn't complain...even after all day in the saddle and on 2 week trips. But then again we wear ear protection and or audio earplugs.

Mine had a Remus exhaust on it when I bought it and the backfire came along with it.

I tried a Leo Vince slip on with my 09 1300gt. Decel at around 2 k rpm I would get a very loud bang. I was cruising on upper 35 on Kings Mountain when I saw a beautiful Buck standing on the rise. I slowed to look and the cannon went off and scared the buck drops out of the deer. I went back to stock . It is a bit too much for me.
