badge removal

Hello folks,
I'm repainting my 08' GT. Is there anyone in K-land who has experience removing the BMW logos/badges? Sure could use the help!
Thanks, Jim

Last I heard...I think the side badges are only on with a glue tape. No pins or other such holding devices on them to the panel. i believe that with a short section of fishing line slid behind the backing they come off.

Never tried it, but looks like it should work.

I like that idea, beats trying to pry it off.

Dental floss dipped in Contact Cement cleaner or Paint Thinner/Varsol.Add juice as required and take your time, they'll release.

You will be able to reuse the badge if you use heat and store the badge in a dustfree environment while the fairing is away for the paintjob.

Use a hairdryer, heat the badge until it is so warm that you barely want to touch it.
Use a flat screwdriver and pry it off slowly. The badge will come off with the glue intact.

On the other hand, new badges are not that expensive. When getting a new paintjob, perhaps you want to get new badges. The old one still needs to be removed though.

I've pulled off many BMW labels using floss in my multiple efforts to back light the BMW Roundel. You simply use lots of dental floss and saw it off. Then, when you get into it, you can put down a cloth and use a flat blade to pry it up. Just be careful and patient.

No need to buy new ones either just because the adhesive was cut loose with the string method. As long as the badges are acceptable in appearance for reuse. the double sided trim tape is commonly available from automotive collision repair shops and suppliers. You'll just need to spend a bit of time removing the remainder of the old stuff from the back of the badge.
