don't get one from Halfords!

I see you're on the Wirral, pop down to Cheshire Oaks and go to Chester Motorrad and get a genuine BMW one, also be VERY careful what oil you put in the K.

Put the wrong type in and say good bye to 600 of clutch!

BMW recommendation, last time I checked, was Castol Power Synthetic 5/50 or 10/40 I think but check that

Halfords is a UK chain store that sells auto & motorcycle parts, bicycles, camping & leisure equipment, etc.

I agree with sticking with the BMW factory filter. High quality, and why take a chance to save a couple of 's (or $'s, for those stuck in North America ).

Mann also makes high quality (German made) oil filters for Beemers. You can get them through Beemer Boneyard online, but I don't know of a local UK source.

And yes, the Power 1 Racing 4T 5W-40 oil is recommended for the Slant/4's wet clutch. The correct spec (and weight) oil can sometimes be bought cheaper at aftermarket retailers, but make sure that it's JASO MA rated.

The K bikes use 'special' oil filters not found in auto shops like Halfords U.K who now seem moreb interested in changing wiper blades and pedal cycles!

The oem oil filters have paint that won't peel off into your oil and an internal backflow valve to stop oil from the upper parts draining back into the sump and leaving them dry when you first start up.

An alterative to going to the stealer shop is to buy Mahle filters.

Any appropriate aftermarket substitute will have all the same features (backflow valve, etc.)

But that said, since due to the size restrictions there are few good car substitutes for the BMW slant-K filter I would agree that it's best to go with the BMW part in this case. It's just not worth messing with it for the minimal savings.
