What does <!> mean on the readout?

So this sign comes on on the dashboard, to the right of the BC label. What does it mean? It is sometimes intermittent, it is sometimes on for long periods. Any thoughts?

TIA.

The <!> symbol means that your engine oil level is low.

You can look up this and more in the BMW Rider's Manual.

The official BMW manuals for most bikes can be found and downloaded at this link.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

It means that your engine oil is a tad low. probably needs less than a cup to top off.

That's OK, I figure in your manual it's probably printed like this: <>
