Throttle jammed by cruise control?

Hi,

My bike was sitting in my garage for more than a month and today I took it out for ride. It was riding fine until I used the cruise control. On highway, it engaged fine and then I could not cancel and RPM trying to go up higher and higher. On 6th gear, used the brake to slow down and kill the engine to stop. I turned the key off and and turn it back on and fired the engine, throttle still sticks....

It is 2010 K13GT and 52K Miles on it. I bought it two months ago.

Is the computer screwed up by cruise control? Or it's mechanical?

I wonder if anybody had the same issue before. It was pretty scary and if I got panic, I would've not writing this right now.

Your advise would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I have not experienced your problem on my 2007 K1200GT with ~55,000 miles on it.

Here is one idea that probably won't work, but it is easy: Reset the throttle mapping:

1. Be sure the cruise control switch is off.
2. Turn the key on, then off, then on, then off, then on. Do not start the engine.
3. Roll the throttle full open, then full closed, then full open, then full closed, then full open, then full closed.
4. Turn the key off.
5. Turn the key on and start the bike again. Did this help?

Otherwise, could it be a stuck throttle (cable?), unrelated to the cruise control?

Check the cruise control indicator lights. Do they go out when you touch the brakes or clutch? If the cruise control turns off as it should, then the problem is most likely a stuck throttle. If they stay on when you touch the brakes or clutch, the cruise system is not working properly.

Thanks for your reply. When the cable is stuck, is it something you can feel out of throttle grip? It feels fine before and after this happened.

I will try to reset the mapping as you advised.

Thanks. I can't recall whether the light goes out or not. Will check. If it is mechanical, what kind of symptom do I see/feel?
