K1200GT vs K1300GT

I have an opportunity to purchase 2 bikes, and I can't decide which one is best.

Bike A, is a 2008 BMW K1200GT SE. It has 25,000 miles on the clock and partial service history. It seems in reasonable condition with a few small areas of obvious corrosion that has been repaired such as around the final drive housing, and on the front fork.

Bike B is a 2010 BMW K1300GT EE. It has 35,000 miles, and loads of BMW service history. It seems to have the same corrosion issues as the 1200, albeit only slightly; I am guessing these are common areas to be affected.

The K1300GT is 1,500 more than the K1200GT. I do not do much touring, and generally ride solo. I just like the BMW Touring bikes apart form the LT.

What is the 1300 like to own compared to a 1200? Which one is lighter? Easier to ride? I currently ride an old R1150RT.

1,500 difference....is the 1300 worth the difference? Will the resale value account for it?

Thanks for the opinions.

I would buy the newest GT that I could afford with as much service history. K bikes are the most expensive to maintain if you are using the dealer for all of your service. The 2010 has all of the updates and fixes (air box, cam chain jump guard, wheel flange, etc). Ride wise, they should be just about the same. Check for options: electronic suspension adjustment (ESA), xenon light, onboard computer including oil level warning, automatic stability control (ASC), heated seat, heated hand grips, tire pressure monitoring (TPM), cruise control and anti-theft alarm.

Holy crap!

Today at 10AM I took delivery of my shiny 2010 BMW K1300GT SE Exclusive!

This beast is replacing a 2002 R1150RT, and ....HOLY CRAP...What a difference.

Gear changes are as smooth as silk. Power delivery is instantaneous. She is RAPID...Quite RAPID!

I bought the bike without seeing it first, so it could have gone either way. But after my first (Granted only 6 miles to work) ride, I am truly in love!

i also went from an "R" ( 1996 R1100RT) to a 2009 K1300GT and the difference can only be described as "holy crap" (i agree)...it's perfect.... although i had the RT for 14 years and it was a total enjoyment, it was clunky and you knew you were riding a machine that some describe as "agricultural"...but, i did love it and it treated me kindly. i have only put 350 miles on the K, but when i ride it the word "beast" comes to mind.
i have 4 bikes and the K is going to be my main machine i think.

Uncledude, I will give the tyres a try when I replace mine next. You are right, the bike is awesome. I have no idea why the GTs are not "flavour of the month", and the GS seems to be preferred. I have not ridden a GS but I cant believe it offers anything above the GT, except off-roading perhaps...and I doubt it is the bike for that either really. I have also not ridden the newer 1600, but I think it would be too big; they are heavier, although I do like the glove box and usb charge ports on the new bike. But I personally think the K1300GT is the ultimate bike and I will have it for many years to come, should it remain reliable.

Happy riding.
