@lhendrick may have posted the wrong link.
do you have this bracket on a 2006 K1200-K1300 GT ?
The one he posted is not the same part as the one on my K1200GT. I am glad I checked his link. I noticed that the photo looked "wrong", so I went to the garage and looked at the one attached to my K1200GT.
Here is the link for the 2006-2008 K1200GT horn guard that I am using, which is a perfect fit for @tbdomenz's 2006 K1200GT:
Horn Guard (#8500247) K1200 LT 8500247 | BMW Wunderlich America
I have had the Wunderlich horn guard (link above) on my 2007 K1200GT for nine years. It will fit perfectly on your 2006 K1200GT, I guarantee it. It consumes the left handlebar mirror hole, coming out of the bottom of the hole. Nothing pokes out from the top of the mirror mount hole, but if you look down in the hole, you can see the screw inside.
I have had one ever since I pulled up to a condo in a large condo complex at 5:00 AM one morning to go riding with friends. While turning around in their steeply sloped driveway, the horn button was pinned against the tank bag, with the horn blaring out. My choices were: (a) Straighten the handlebar a little to stop the horn and let the motorcycle fall over, or (b) Suck it up and finish the turn with the horn blaring.
I chose (b) and ordered a horn guard from Wunderlich the next day. Installation was trivially easy. It has worked well ever since. It still looks new after 9 years of baking in the sun for tens of thousands of miles. It does not interfere with using the horn button at all. Not even the tiniest bit. Depending on the tank bag, it is possible to bump the horn button even with the horn guard on, but you have to try. It stops 99.9% of accidental discharges.
Wunderlich Horn Guard Part Type Discussion:
A long time ago, Wunderlich had only one horn guard part, which worked on the 2006-2008 K1200GT. Wunderlich did not have a solution for the K1300GT because the K1300GT does not have the mirror holes on the handlebars. I just checked Wunderlich's website and they show a horn guard for the K1300GT that looks like the part that @lhendrik showed. On that part, there is a metal arm on the horn guard, with bent holes at the top and bottom of the arm. On mine, there is a single arm, with a single bent hole which lets a screw attach the horn guard to the bottom of the mirror mount hole on my K1200GT.
I wonder whether the K1300GT part might fit the 2006-2008 K1200GT anyway. It DEFINITELY will not fit my 2007 K1200GT, because a separate ASC disable switch fills in the space next to the left handlebar switch block. ASC was not available for the 2006 K1200GTs, but might have been added by an owner to one or two of them, which also requires an expensive ECU (ZFE?) replacement.
If the necessary screws on the K1200GT exist and
they match up, then @tbdomenz
may want to buy one of the K1300GT horn guards instead. I would definitely call Wunderlich America first!!
If this whole crazy idea works, then it would leave the mirror mount hole open for use - attach a RAM mount for a GPS, radar detector, cellphone, SPOT, DeLorme, or whatever. Add additional lighting, a mirror (imagine that!), or whatever you can imagine. (Personally, I did not like using the mirror hole for a GPS mount. No matter how much I tightened it, the GPS wobbled whenever I used the touchscreen.)
If you don't care about preserving the left handlebar mirror hole, just buy the official K1200GT part that I linked above. It matches mine, and it will work very well indeed.
Don't hesitate - buy one now. You won't regret it. I never did.
