gravel question

I know this bike is not for unpaved roads but still: did anybody experience a gravel or hard soil road? Maybe one mile or half a mile? What are the impressions?

Take care!

Hi,

I even was on a 3 mile dirt road with my K12GT, and the dirt road was very wet! Man, did I sweat to keep the bike upright! It was so smeary that the bike tended to go sideways, even under near idling rpms.

Not a sweet situation I can asure you!

Tried to get on the pavement asap, but still had to do the 3 miles: no joy!

On the other hand I did some gravel roads and the bike held direction straight on, no sweat there.

Rgds

I first bought my house with a gravel driveway and then had a bike 1/2 the weight. Within 4 months I'd had it tarmacadamed. Gravel is like riding on ice! Even putting feet down doesn't work. Over in UK people with big houses can't afford decent driveways so they put down gravel since it had some sort of status symbol. It's virtually impossible to park up on gravel if you stop unless you are ready for it with a 12" square piece of plywood.

Gravel is not motorcycle friendly!

First weekend ride. 5 miles of gravel road (they were replacing the original pavement and had 5 miles all torn up). I couldn't believe how smooth the ESA in comfort mode was. I had to watch my speed because it was so smooth. The same road on my LT would have vibrated my teeth out.

gravel

I have ridden for days on gravel. Now wet clay that is different. The RS is stable enough. I have also gone though, and down hills on walking tracks. On an RT I have maintained top speed in gravel. It slides a bit but you get used to it. Have not gone over 140kph on the RS in gravel because of wild life popping out. Part of my training course was riding a road bike on wet clay, snow and lots of gravel.

But with the wheels we have? Stay away from rocks that will bend your rim, likewise deep holes.

Keep your feet up, your weight back, your arms loose, your front brake off, your eyes up and remember the throttle is your friend. Works for me and I'm a novice at it.
