Replacement possible

If the Xenon headlight isn't going to be available as an option is it possible to order the light through BMW and have it installed?

It appears to be an issue with American regulations. It does come on the European models and although I can't confirm until Tuesday WHEN I PICK UP MY BIKE!!, it does appear to come on Canadian bikes. (At least it was on the order sheet.)

So I don't know if it will ever be available for U.S. bound machines unless regs or hardware changes.

The Xenon light did not get DOT (US Department of Transportation) approval. Even though the K1200LT passed, the reason I was told (from the dealer meeting back in Feb) was that it was too bright.

Even if BMW eventually gets approval, you can bet that the retro kit would be cost prohibitive. There are other Xenon (HID) options out there. The LT guys are looking at either HID-Online.com (http://www.hid-online.com/hidonline/ ) or or CQLight.ca (http://www.cqlight.ca/catalog/ )

What's different is the reflector around the HID lamp. Take a look at the new LT's Xenon reflector, as compared to a new LT without the HID kit. VERY different. And I can only assume that BMW did a better job with the LT's HID reflector than with the GT's.
