Help
I have a 2007 k1200gt. 45,000 miles. The rear suspension gives a clunk when it reaches the bottom of the stroke and releases to come back up. Rebound seems OK. Front suspension is ok.
It’s like it skips an inch before the rebound kicks in.

Anyone had this before?
Thanks

Wattfp,
You on doubt have the "Adjust On the Fly" suspension? This is another extraneous option Beemer cooked up like the Servo Assist Brakes. It's such a complicated and expensive mess that most riders just get rid of it once it takes a shit. Put some Ohlins shocks on that hummer and go down the road.

I believe The Ohlins model numbers for our bikes have been discontinued but you can still find them 2nd hand on eBay and then send them into Ohlins for a rebuild. They have a facility in the Carolinas so you don't have to send them all the way back to Sweden. I saw a set of Ohlins for Beemer K-Bike on eBay recently from someone in Portland, OR for really cheap. There are also other Ohlins shocks that will fit K-Bikes just fine but have some irrelevant feature that gave them a different Part #. You will have to research this to find which will fit.

I put Ohlins shocks front and rear on my '08 1200 S like 8 years ago and have had no difficulties.

rear suspension

I just did the change to a Wilbers and am really enjoying the change. As for doing the swap it is not as hard as it looks. I am no bike mechanic and managed to do it. There are a couple of threads with photos on how it's done that are very helpful.

You could listen to anonymous voices online (like the voices in my head) or you could inquire with a specialist who works in this area.

I was going though CA two-up with my then-new K1300GT and wife; we stopped by Ted Porter's shop and spoke with the man for almost an hour about this-n-that relating to Kbikes (which he generally does not service). Ted was shifting his general m/c business in the direction of a specialty suspension shop. He will by now have more experience and better recommendations but he's a suspension dealer and will set up for your weight and style of riding... which is what you want.
