ESA calibration

After getting new shocks back from EPM (Hyperpro) when I try to calibrate the ESA on my K1300GT for the front I get: "Negative response received from controller: conditions not correct or incorrect sequence of commands" and for the rear:Minimum pulse rate not reached at rear."
Anyone have any ideas?

What are you using to calibrate the ESA?

2009 K1300 GT
1984 Kawasaki ZX750-E1 Turbo
1990 Kawasaki ZX600R
2005 R1200 RT - gone
2008 Honda CBR1000 RR - gone
2004 Honda CBR600RR - gone

these?

High performance motorcycle suspension sales and service from EPM Performance Imports

doesn't say anything about them being ESA units?

Decent suspension has real adjusters on real quality damping units.... that way you can get a plush controlled range of suspension movement (improving ride quality safety and handling).... a budget nasty shock with a one for all damper screw activated by a work for 2 year servo installed by BMW is a nasty bit of crap....

Whilst the idea of a toy to play as your ride seems cute (and the K1300GT's ability to do preload may be useful), don't expect it to be a quality component. The electronics are there to fool you in to believing something of quality was fitted, so BMW can add US$ 2000 to the price (its called marketing).

If the units you bought have no electronic connections / are not compatible with BMWs can bus and switches, then of course you can't electronically calibrate anything.

EPM takes the existing ESA shock components and adds them to a new shock. Before the shocks are sent to EPM, you need to set them for Comfort and One Rider, no luggage.

so aside from difficulty calibrating, can you get any response from the bike and the suspension talking?

if they seem to do something as you toggle options in the cluster, then is it voltage ? BMW dealer tools lock out any programming (which calibration is doing) unless voltage is above 14.5v to avoid programming issues. Many people don't have an adequate power supply to achieve this. I can imagine a GS 911 may have a lower voltage threshold to allow home bodging, but it could well be low battery volts stopping you.

You could try support with a battery charger

it does if you think why they might do it.....

lots of comments on the internet saying ISTAP has a 15V min…. the aim being they don't want you to be able to do the work at home.....

lots of hacked copies throw a fake number at ISTA so it believes its on a power supply, then you forget and voltage drops and crash the bike

whenever they programme my merc its always on 14.8v, again the dealer Xentry tool will not programme unless on a voltage stabiliser

and here a story of the fun you can have at the start of the video, when he did his BM car without a voltage stabiliser... (note voltage reading top right !!!)

what is wrong with this site..... remove the ' from the start and paste it in browser 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxpgd_a4Btk
