I'm back to a K1300GT again (my second), after a spell away (no not in there).
The more I ride this bike, or work on it, the more I wonder why BMW replaced it with the tubby K1600? I've ridden that and its such a backward step.:surprise
I dunno about the cruiser market. H-D focuses on that market and it's gotten them year after year of declining sales.
Were I to buy another bike (I'm 67 with a bad knee) it would be in the 250-450 cc range. Something I can pick up when I inevitably drop it. Picked up the K13 and now I've got a bum knee... even after a passerby helped me lift the 630-lb ultimate sport-tourer. Hope I never have to do that again!
I've had several dozen BMW cars since 1970... each and every single model has a quirk that for the most part, BMW never took responsibility for. It's just the way they do business. Perhaps if I'd "specialized" in another brand, I'd know the weaknesses of that brand, but for me it's been BMW all the way, except for a miserable '85 Corolla that always needed work, and the wife's two '98 Benz C280's.
My two K100RS (I could work on those) were nearly fault-free, sadly the K1300GT not so and tech info is sadly lacking.
I am 83. Having dropped the bike a few times over the past 10 years of ownership, I have picked it up once backing up from a crouch backwards. the other two times, I had some help. It is still the best bike for riding on open roads and twisties. A few minor bothersome problems, but overall, a good one for me.
I totally agree. I’m on a 2008 K1200GT and am disappointed in the direction BMW went with the K1600 as the follow on to our bikes. Like most, I want my next bike to be lighter and more agile to maneuver. I’m thinking the S1000XR may be the potential replacement at some point in the future, but will surely miss the wind protection of the GT.
That's bad. Hope things get better for you. I had a brain tumour a few years back and when I was depressed the wife went out and bought me a ZZR1400. The fastest thing she could find. Having the bike in the garage helped a lot with my recovery.:grin
You'll get there. In the meantime have a e-beer on me.:wink
62 and a bad knee, worse yet I blew a disc in my back and have trouble walking, let alone riding. Getting better every day though, the back anyway. The knee I'll just have to live with. My poor K13GT is slumbering peacefully under a cover and hooked to life support for now. A depressing thought if ever there was one. I go sit in the garage and drink a beer to keep her company..
