K1200GT Audio System

I have heard from a very reliable source that the rumors of an integrated radio/audio system for the K1200GT have been greatly exaggerated. From what I have been told, NO RADIO will be available as an option from BMW for the K1200GT.

On another note, this same source has told me that the development of the next-gen K1200LT has been pushed off an additional year. The current thinking is that it will be introduced in the Fall of 2008 and arrive in the spring of 2009. The reason given was: 1) the slowing of K1200LT sales, 2) the booked backlog of K1200GT sales (the term used was "off the scale").

Also, the F800S/ST are still slated to arrive in the spring of 2007. However, the US dealer network has told BMW that if it doesn't come in at just under $10K, not to bother.

Regarding the next Gen LT, I will be very surprised if we see a new generation ever. My opinion, it's probably a goner...

I heard the same thing from my dealer, but he added "BMW never really had a good sound system anyway." I switched my old R1100RTL system out for a Kenwood with upgraded speakers and it still sounded like crap with the wind noise. Speaker size allowance in the dash was too small for the job. CD player skipped too when I tried it, but so does a bud's Gold Wing. Had to go back to tape to stop the skipping due to the vertical mount of the deck in the RT.

Can't beat custom in-ear phones with a good mp3 player or perhaps a satellite radio (Navigator III or new Garmin Zumo 550 maybe?).

Exclamation Huh?!

What the heck are you talking about Jeff? My '06 GT has an amazing sound system with over 8,000 songs in it's library!

Same here, I'm with Joe. After working on older and new LT's for friends, installing the VOICE system in Beck's old CLC and dealing with the POS radios in the RT's I never want to see a BMW audio system ever again.

If I ever have to have a bike with a built in radio, I will buy a Wing or something, but then I would have to shoot myself first.
