GT BakUp backrest...

...is now available for both rider and passenger. Just got the call from my dealer. He's got both. They're black in color but grey is available. From what he told me, the fit for the rider is similar to the one for the RT. The passenger backrest mounts via an aluminum plate that fits over the luggage rack. It's held above the luggage rack's plastic painted surface by some spacers. Should be an easy on - easy off type of thing. I won't be able to get in to the shop to check them out until Saturday. Based upon my experience with the LT BakUp and from what I've seen of the RT BakUP, this should be perfect for those times where the wife or sons want to tag along.

What? My daughter's not allowed to ride with me anymore?!

But seriously, a little food for thought...

I had a BakUp on my LT, and loved it. Having said that, on my trip to CCR I used for the first time that huge seatbag that I made for the GT. It also doubled as a backrest. But with the GT's seating position, it was really not that effective, or useful.

I can understand why the passenger unit would be good for those people without the large topbox. But the rider's backrest?...I don't see the point.

I didn't see the point with the riders backrest either Joe. But, I guess some guys will. My interest lies with the pillion backrest for the comfort of my wife and boys while riding around town. I've also got the large top case but it stays in my closet wrapped in a flannel sheet until it's road trip time.

I dropped the handle bars a tad and even if I put them all the way up, if I had a back rest, I doubt that I would ever touch it. I sorta like the GT's riding position just as it is.
