Another Wiring Question

Hey everyone,

I just installed my Baehr Bluephone so that I can use my Nav III and my cell phone. It works great! But I have a problem. The Bluephone gets its power by splitting the power lead that goes to the intercom. When the intercom was installed the dealer wired it directly to the battery since it is not active when a helmet is not plugged in. Well, the Bluephone doesn't work that way and since it is now in effect wired directly to the battery it never goes off.

I think that the easiest solution here would be to tap into a switched power lead. But being a software engineer and not an electrical engineer I have no idea what I am looking at when I pull the battery cover. So...

1) What lead should I use?
2) Where is this wire?
3) Am I going about this the wrong way?

Thanks,
Brian

There are several options. One is the special plug taped near the battery. One of the wires is a switched wire. Another is to tap off the low beam circuit. And another is to tap off the wire leading to the power accessory unit( this has a 30 to 60 second delay at shut off).

Brian:

You can tap off the pilot light using the CanBus I/F (interface) with a + lead. The only issue is the bulb will not go in as deep as the OEM setup with the bulb holder. Bulb holder will need to be zip tied. But the light will still shine through.

Hi Brian,

This would typically be an excellent hookup to the accessory socket: see this thread for more information on it!

Enjoy...

The power accessory unit sounds like a good choice, but again, I am not sure what to look for.

Thanks,
Brian

Agreed that this would be a good choice, but I think that it is already being used for the Nav III.

Hari,

I got mine from Raffy . He had two when I ordered mine and may have one left.

Thanks for the picture.

Sorry, forgot to ask. Can I assume that it is OK to use that power for both the Baehr and the gps and that it is not too much of a load?

Thanks,
Brian

Is better if to buy the accessory. ZBI-CBAR-01-01 to connect the intercom to the battery.
it brings three cables, two to battery and one to the plug along with gps.
