Question Bike Trailers (Towed behind the K1200GT)

G'day everyone.
Here's an interesting point. In Australia, towing a bike trailer behind your touring machine is very popular.
How would you wire the trailer loom up to the K1200GT loom with the Canbus system?
Sounds like it would be a major issue.
Just a point for those who are thinking about towing, as my wife suggested we buy a trailer and travel across the country to Western Australia for a holiday on the BM. (East coast to West Coast)

Best wishes.

Ken -
Bushtec Trailers has been working on a wiring harness for the R1200RT that should be close to completion. The system connects into the bikes tail light assembly to control the trailer breaks. I would think that their harness would work on any CANBus system, but there may be differencies in the tail light control between the various models that would cause problems. Perhaps some of the other members who are much more familiar with the CANBus system would know the answer.

This is something that I never even considered with this bike. Normally I thought this in the realm of Wings, LT's and HD Baggers.

Now that I think of it, I am not sure why this couldn't be done. The bike certainly has enough HP and torque to get the job done.

If you do it, please post some pics. I would love to see it.

trailer whip at 110+

better have break away chains on the trailer, I could see a trailer tire blow out at 110-1120 mph and plastic and bones and guts and blood everywhere.

K1200gt in a quick swerve to miss a "rue" and dam_, why didn't this thing turn...oops I forgot the sled I tied to the ass end.

Wouldn't be my cup of tea....put the trailer on your friends bike, enjoy yours.

A one-wheeled Uni-go would be slick. Light, leans and tracks with bike and doubles luggage capacity. I have one for my wing. I'd be a little cautious though on the impact a trailer would have on existing and silent warranties. Bmw seems pretty fussy about honoring them if they can find an excuse not to.

Not sure about the trailer but this post definitely wins the "oldest resurrected thread" award. Over 4 years! Wow!

I have a unigo single wheel trailer hooked up to my 07GT. I just wired the light to the existing tail light and all seems fine. The tail light on the Gt runs on low voltage say 4 volts and the same light is the Brake light which is 12 volts. The tail light on the trailer is a bit dim but seems fine. I have had the trailer loaded riding 2 up @ 100mph and couldn't feel it there. All seems fine .A buddy and myself built the hitch in an evening. My Son designed it he's a mechanical engineer.

My difficulty is that in CA, any vehicle towing a trailer is limited to 55 mph. Even on 70 mph I-5, they will pull you and write you up for anything over 55.

Any chance we can get pics of your hitch design?

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...
