Pirates Helmet Lock

So, I bought the helmet lock, filed the tumblers to fit my key and went to install. It really started putting pressure on the rear brake line, I mean, like it was going to bend. So, I stopped and took it off.

Am I freaking out here, or is that normal?

If this isn't going to work I think I'll go to what I had on the LT. They are basically for Goldwings, two posts that stick in the holes on the handlebars with leetle locks.

No, that's not normal. Gotta be improper installation. I've got the original bracket on my bike, since my riding buddy's the designer and manufacturer. No problems whatsoever.

I promise you, the installation is correct. It fits perfectly till you start to snug it down. I'm wondering if the 07 brakeline was moved some because of the new Teves system?

You could be correct. Would you post a picture so we can compare it to an '06?

I had an unrelated problem with a lowered pillion footrest kit from MV-Verholen. It just did not fit my later model - non servo - bike.

They have found that BMW have changed the pillion footrests and are fabricating a new kit.

I think that BMW and many manufacturers make changes to models that they do not broadcast and some that they do. Clearly we have found a couple that they have not.

Very well may be a difference between '06 and '07 with the new system. We'll be checking. Thanks for the heads up Griff.

You can see where it cut thru the plastic coating and started cutting into the brake line before I backed off

It looks like the line is routed fairly close to the same, but there might be a little more clearance on my '06.

I have not seen where the mount Jerry (Pirate) sells for the GT goes. When I got my GT there wasn't a lock so I purchased the BMW lock and a keyable tumbler and mounted it on the left peg frame:

The location I chose for mine is not ideal as the helmet is VERY close to the ground when the bike is on the sidestand, but it works.

You back out the bolt, while removing the nut, right there above the brake line. It's a nicely made kit

It sure looks like there is not enough difference between the '06 and '07 as far as mounting that lock is concerned. Could you reposition the brake line slightly?
