Display intensity

I find when in sunlight, unless it is directly behind me, my display is not really visible enough to use. The RID on my 98 GS was always readable regardless of ambient light. I have had to put stick on clock and thermometer on the side shelves in order to have useful meters. I notice elsewhere on this forum that there is an upgrade which addresses ilumination of the display..
Has anyone else found this to be a problemj? Or is it just my old catarac eyes???

first of all
are you wearing POLARIZED sunglasses?
because, IF you are... then the display will be INVISIBLE with the sunlight behind you

even if not.... the display is a nice quality but very poorly lit....
i love polarized glasses... but they aren't conducive to seeing the display (or that of my Nav iii ), unfortunately

You are correct, about the polarized lenses. They are much worse than regular tinted lenses, but even with them, the display is quite dim, and you have to spend too much time and concentration to read it, rather than just a glance, while in traffic.

Thanks for the reply

Intensity

Yes, the intensity is all the way up. The adjustment works well, but at max, it still sucks

To tell the truth, the speedo is almost as bad, However I just got the line of sight ledge for my Valentine. I will see whether that helps, but I doubt it.

For me, the whole system is not done right. If the guages were white with black numbers and needle, it would be much better. I have a color deficiency, and that might exaserbate the whole thing...

Thanks for your reply, tho

I hate admit I haven't a clue, but how is it adjustable?

Push the right button on the instrument panel. Keep pushing it and the intensity bar goes up or down.

What was that middle thang?

One of the guys with the most miles!!

Anyway, I have no issues with the display, but my eyes are only 52 years old. Sometimes the glare is bad, but to be honest Klap, didn't you look at the gauges when you test rode the bike before purchase (you say the speedo sucks too)? I think you're stuck since the analogs definitely can't be changed.
Getting back to what my alter ego said (and what I told him months ago), lose the polarized glasses when riding. They hide oil on the road too, so don't use them.

Sad isn't it Greg? I really haven't had a problem with the display, but like to know these kinds of things!

On that note, I wear a Schuberth, and the integral sun shield is great for that. It stops just at the right height to have no impact on my gps or dash. Love that setup!
