Shifting the K4x bikes

The clunk you get in shifting is the result of the difference in speed of the input and output shafts in the transmission. Doing quick shifts will minimize the clunk. Putting the bike in gear can be done without a sound. With bike in neutral grab clutch and hit lever into first. Result will be a clunk. If however you grab clutch then count one 1000 two 1000 then shift there will be no noise.

I look forward to trying that. Just need the rain to hold off a bit longer so I can get out and ride.

I was amazed at the difference in shifting by just barely pulling the clutch during shift instead of pulling it all the way back to the bar. Silent and smooth.

I've got an old '97 KRS and yes it works for the pull away but it will take me time to forget the old habit! I've never used much clutch and don't bother on most upshifts.

Now I couldn't stop the clunks on the downshifts whilst the bike was moving but this is what I expected.
