RCU Shelf

Is anyone using the RCR Shelf?

If so, how's it doing? I'm wanting to put a 276c and a V1 on top and a Mix-it 2 velcro'd to the bottom side. Will the shelf support all this?

Thanks,

OMFG, Rob L. on a GT!

I only know of the Big Mak shelf, did you mean the RCU? What do you know that we don't and glad you came over to the darkest of dark sides.

Yeah, I found it at:

I've had the RCU's on my RT's so I know 'em.

As for the dark side, I'm REALLY enjoying it. Heading towards the Ozarks this weekend for a little workout!

Thanks for the welcome.

i have had an RCU shelf on my GS and am famliar with them

one problem i see with THIS particular installation is that the instrument panel is RUBBER MOUNTED... meaning that the RCU shelf will NOT be stable

am i wrong about this?

and.....
can the screen be put ALL THE WAY DOWN with the RCU shelf in place?

I have the Big Mak shelf and the screen can go all the way down with mine. I set mine up with 3/8" of clearance with the windshield all the way down, but guess what. Once you go over about 50 the wind forces the shield down on mine so I put a clear plastic foot on the contact point.

As for vibrating, I would like to hear what folks have to say. The Big Mak shelf was pretty bad until he sent me the support arms that brace it from the side, that helped a lot. There is still some vibration, but nothing like before.

the RCU shelf on my GS HORRIBLY VIBRATED at speed, making the 376C UNreadable when i was on the highway
of course the KGT is much SMOOTHER than the GS....
but the rubber-mounted dash was what had me concerned

Interesting. My wife bought a Big Mak shelf for me and I installed it. It doesn't have any support other than the four bolts under the windshield. How did you get the brackets?

Also, with the angle of the w/s, I can't mount my 276 on it with the shield lowered. I was wanting to use the Garmit mount.

I'm so confused!

I never had "issues" like this with my R bikes.

i think the RCU shelf on the KGT would only be good for a radar detector or a toll pass.... or something of THAT size and nothing else

i have a 376C...
so, the shelf doesn't work for me

nice thought, though

I did have issues like this with my RT's because I like to keep my stuff above the cluster. I still have marks on my RT's CB windshield :wtf

I'm using the Garmin mount and have no issues with the mount or GPS clearing the windshield. I should have been more clear, it's the bracket that Mark sent me. It's generic and was able to slide it most of the way back - it's pretty cool. The top of the bracket only touches the windshield when it's all the way down and I'm doing over 50 mph. This winter I will just trim the bracket and there won't be an issue at all, just me being lazy.
