6000 service New Oil Dipstick & Software Upgrade

Hi,

I have just had my 6000 service and the mechanic (or whatever BMW call them) told me that I now have software version 9. I did not belive there was a version 9. Have only drove the bike 30 miles, can't say I feel any difference. It is still snatchy at low speed.

Also I have a new Oil dipstick. However when I dip the oil it is about 1.5cm's above the MAX mark ( Bike had been stationary for 30 minutes) It it a case of overfill? or is it the wrong dipstick? The little tick on the dashboard for Oil is displayed. I do not want to have to go back to garage again. (124 sterling for 6K Service)

Thanks in advance Ian

Why did you get a new dipstick, is this some warranty thing?

I think I would ride it for 10 miles or so. Keep it in netural and let it idle for a minute then shut it down. ANd check quickly. If its more than a few mm above the top line,

then the dipstick is wrong for the bike,

or it was overfilled.

On my 07 the manual says only to dip the stick not screw it back in when checking, not sure if that would make the difference....

The change of oil cap and dipstick is a recall issue. I am going to have it done next week.

Interesting! Are you based in the UK? (Presumably, given you're quoting sterling prices) One of the problems I am having is allegedly fixed by version 9 software, but my dealer doesn't have it available yet.

BTW, I believe you should check the oil only a minute or so after stopping from a good long run, not after 30 minutes standing. Might make a difference to the reading?

I picked up my new 07 GT a few weeks ago and they changed the dipstick right in the showroom before we took it outside. It took all of 15 seconds to change. the new one is vented.
