Thumbs up Detailing my GT today, I was reacquainted to an old friend...

STEEL WOOL!

More specifically, "Super Fine #0000 Steel Wool Pads". First, I tried it on my wheels. Made cleaning the brake dust, road grime, and bugs off of the wheels a snap! Then, I tried it gently on all of the other silver powder-coated areas with the same results. Two pads did the entire bike, and believe me, after my 8K ride this bike was a mess! I even gently used it on my stainless steel exhaust can with pleasing results.

Try it . . . you'll like it.

Steel pads on stainless

Better get the wax out. If you use steel wool on your stainless it will contaminate the stainless and start rusting on you. There is no cure for this. As a welder I have watched rookies brush a stainless weld with a cabon brush and it rusts over night. It also cost them their job.

Try a synthetic scrub pad instead

I'll use some Mother's Stainless Polish on it. That seems to leave a coating on it or some sort, and it worked very well on my ZX-11 with stainless pipes.
