Topcase Woes

I guess call me stupid.
BMW touts the 49 liter topcase as "being able to accommodate 2 helmets".
Well, it does. When I took my $$$ Schubert out after the ride home from work, I got the real prize.
Seems the screw heads on the inside of the topcase liked my paint.

A word to the wise. A small peice of ducttape can save big $$$.

Either that or keep the helmets on your head when riding.
What was I thinking.

Sorry to hear Dave. Bummer.

Here's a tip that may also help...dealers that carry helmets often have a supply of helmet bags that they never sell, they just throw them in some box somewhere. I talked a dealer into giving me several of these and I always have a couple on my bike with me. When I put my helmet in the topcase, it goes inside one of these helmet bags first. I also store my helmets in these over the winter. Keeps the bugs out.

I feel for you Dave. Especially for that nice paint on the Schuberth.

Joe, his Schuberth should have come with a bag.

I bought the small top case yesterday, dealer suggested I put my helmet in the protective helmet bag if I want to store it in the case. He must read this fourm too.

I guess you were punished for RIDING the bike with the helmet in the trunk instead of its proper place, on your head.

Although I always ride with my helmet on, if I am parked and put the helmet in a top or side bag I always put a rag between the paint on helmet and side / top part of the case.

Your other alternative is to "hang" it outside through a locking system. Then when parked the Harley guys can use it as a urinal.

Know the feeling Hung my new X-11 from the right foot peg, then forgot it was there while getting on the bike. Scratched the top a bit. Now I have one of these (really big fan) on the top of my helmet http://www.sierrabmw.bigstep.com/ite...3&PRID=1102488

Anyway, I have a piece of tool box drawer liner material I purchased from Sears in my topcase. Works good.
