Thumbs up Newbie intro and question

I have been lurking for the last six months or so and purchased my new 07 1200GT in late March. I thank everyone for pointing me in the right direction on options,seats, and rideability issues.

I ordered my bike in graphite gray with all the options available, TPM, ASC, Zenon, Pkg 2, etc. As a recent retiree(early) I plan to tour extensively with my wife and wanted a bike that will handle all our gear and still scare me when I twist the throttle.

My current steed is a 02 Ducati ST4s which is great fun but a little brutal for my wife on long trips. I plan to keep it as resale is non existent and the sound is spine tingling.

Initial impressions;

Engine throttle response and modulation is a little tricky. I have ridden for 37 years and thought I knew what I was doing. Bike has close to 2K and seems to be smoothing out.

Power-awesome

Brakes-linked taking some acclimation expecially with Telever anit dive properties

Suspension with ESA- best of any bike I have ever ridden. My SO thought they had repaved a back road we take often.

Love the cruise contol!

Heated grips and seats on recent 42 degree day saved my hands and marriage!

Now for a quick question,

My wife is complaining that the 49L top case backrest is too far back for her to use. She is used to a Corbin with integrated backrest when we ride the Duc two up and she loves that seat and the feeling of security. I just put her on the bike a few moments ago to better understand her concerns, in her natural riding position she is three to four inches away from the top case and would have to lean back to use the pad.

As we are off for a three week trip the first of June I was hoping someone had a bright idea other than replacing the seats. or having an upholstery shop make a custom spacer.

While I was having my Russell seat made, the guys there offered to make a new thicker back pad for the top case, I declined as my wife doesn't have any issues scooting back. Anyway, Russell will do that. Now that I think about it, probably any competent seat shop could whip up something.
